Analysis of a macroproblem at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Vale do São Francisco from the perspective of Gareth Morgan's metaphors

Abstract

A diagnostic reading and critical analysis of a hospital macro-problem at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Vale do São Francisco were carried out using four organizational metaphors proposed by Gareth Morgan. In this sense, the study is qualitative and descriptive in nature. A systematic perception of organizational macro-problems by the hospital itself was identified, allowing the delimitation of the present study to analyze the macro-problem related to the theme of care. Through the metaphors of the machine, organism, brain and culture, it was possible to see different points of view for the same macro-problem. Each metaphor contributed with alternatives, which could even be added together, to mitigate the causes identified in the hospital problem. It was observed that Gareth Morgan's metaphors provide a perspective that helps to facilitate the study of organizations, and that managers and theorists can develop a more complete and dynamic understanding of organizations, enabling them to face the challenges that are constantly changing.
